The first tests of the Panhard CD began on April 7, 1962 in Le Mans. The prototype had a steel plate body (the switch to aluminum will save 80 kg). The engine capacity was 702 cm3 for a power of 60 CV DIN.
At the beginning of the 24h of Le Mans 1962, 3 cars were engaged. The one carrying the n°53, of blue color gained the first place in the index of performance.
The CD Panhard of series was diffused starting from July 1963. 161 specimens left the Panhard factories between 1963 and 1965.
