Delage D8-120

CABRIOLET N°51028 BY CHAPRON- 1937

The “Flagship”

40 years under a canopy

Of course, no one would have let rust have the final say. But in 2009, when we discovered this convertible, it hadn’t left its canopy for 40 years.

The return to the roads of a legend

It took two years to see the D8-120 back on its wheels. However, it immediately became the flagship of our small fleet due to its surprising ease of handling and good nature regardless of the weather and temperature.

Chapron’s workshop register – 1937

The 1937 Chapron Delage D8 120 chassis n° 51 028 – n° Chapron 5 450 is according to our books, the 5th one built buy Henri Chapron in February 1937. This car is part of an order of 8 “Cabriolets Grand Luxe 4 seats” given to Henri Chapron in February 1937.

The successive owners

We find again an official trace of the car in 1946. She then bears the registration number 5983 RL.
On October 23rd, 1947, she becomes the property of Mr. Louis DELPECH, an industrialist in Annonay as shown in the registers of the departmental archives of the Ardèche.
In April 1951, it takes the license plate number 407 V 38, in Isère. Its owner was then David MAYO, resident of Décines-Charpieu.

Forty years under an canopy

The car will not change any more its registration number until its restoration, at the beginning of the years 2010, but will still pass through three owners : Mr Alain NICOUD, between 1952 and the beginning of the Sixties, Mr Max LIBER until 1969 and finally, Mr BAILLARD who will keep it from 1969 until 2009, date on which JWA Classic recovered it.

We found her on a postcard in Megève (french Alps) during the 50’s

2012 – Concours d’élégance in La Baule

In 2012, she won the “Best of Show” at the “Concours d’Elegance” in La Baule.
